PROVIDING A SAFER ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL
The Angel Shot App is a safety-oriented application designed to empower individuals to discreetly request assistance from venue staff when they feel unsafe or uncomfortable in a social setting. Named after the covert code phrase used in bars to signal distress, the app takes this concept and enhances it with modern technology, making it universal and easily accessible to anyone with a smartphone. By streamlining the process of requesting help, the Angel Shot App aims to create safer environments in bars and restaurants, prioritizing the well-being and comfort of patrons.
In social settings such as bars and restaurants, individuals may sometimes find themselves in uncomfortable or potentially unsafe situations. Whether it's unwanted advances from other patrons, feeling threatened, or simply needing assistance due to intoxication, it can be challenging to communicate these concerns to venue staff discreetly. Traditional methods of seeking help, such as directly approaching a bartender or staff member, may not always be feasible or may exacerbate the situation. As a result, individuals may feel hesitant or unable to seek assistance when needed, leading to potential risks to their safety and well-being.
The Angel Shot App addresses these challenges by providing a discreet and efficient way for individuals to request assistance from venue staff. By simply checking in to the venue and submitting a request through the app, users can alert staff members to their situation without drawing unwanted attention. Upon receiving the request, venue staff are promptly notified and can discreetly intervene to ensure the safety and comfort of the patron. Additionally, the app promotes awareness and adoption among venue staff, fostering a culture of proactive assistance and support for patrons. By leveraging technology to enhance the traditional Angel Shot concept, the app empowers individuals to take control of their safety while enjoying social experiences responsibly.
In my role, I drive innovative collaboration and problem-solving, closely engaging with stakeholders to gather feedback and enhance the app's UX design iteratively. I prioritize user and client satisfaction by applying user-centered design principles, resulting in an attractive and coherent interface. Leveraging agile adaptability, I seize opportunities like selling into ten bars to gather valuable feedback, guiding our team's agile sprints to optimize user flows and interface design. This approach has led to increased adoption and engagement, highlighting the impact of my role in our product's success.
In my process, I created a survey for users to gain a deeper understanding of their needs and identify existing problems. I gathered insights from this research and observed how user needs related to the current issues. Brainstorming solutions based on my research, I built a prototype incorporating the best ideas. Subsequent testing with users allowed us to collect valuable feedback, which I used to iterate and refine our solutions for an improved user experience.
For the user research phase of the Angel Shot App's development, a comprehensive survey of 12 questions was conducted to gather insights from 100 women between the ages 18 and 50, regarding their experiences, concerns, and preferences related to safety in social settings, particularly bars and restaurants. The survey delved into various aspects, including the frequency of visits to such establishments, instances of feeling uncomfortable or unsafe, familiarity with existing safety measures, and attitudes towards using technology for seeking assistance discreetly.
Additionally, respondents were questioned about their awareness of the Angel Shot concept, their likelihood of using a safety-oriented app like Angel Shot, and the features they deemed most valuable in such an application. The survey results provided valuable insights into the target demographic's perceptions and needs, informing the design and development of the Angel Shot App to better address the safety concerns of patrons in social settings.
